1- The Wolf Of Wall Street by Martin Scorsese
Every few years a film comes along that raises the bar in the the art of filmmaking; Martin Scorsese, no stranger to innovation in the past 5 decades has simply made another masterpiece, and I predict in years to come The wolf of wall street will be regarded as one of the directors most important movies. This film is an example of what a first-class director/actor team could do with total artistic freedom and a decent budget. Scorsese has mentioned in interviews that He did not want to tell this story, unless he could tell it his way; without the studio executives drawing red lines for him and his actors. The freedom granted to Scorsese resulted in a film that is angry, funny, surprising, wild, entertaining and feel free to add on any other adjective to this list except boring; the 3 hour running time, plays as smooth as a 90 minute pixar movie. Its critics say the film glamourises the irresponsible behaviour of its main character, and to them I say of course it does, great movies have the power to take you places and make you empathise with characters you don’t normally empathise with, and those who say the film is immoral, they should take a good look at the last shot of the film, where Scorsese is explicitly pointing out that in todays capitalist culture, people no matter where they are in the world want to learn how to make easy money.
